Organization Summary:
Hope After Rape (HAR) is a national indigenous NGO in Uganda dedicated to empowering vulnerable communities. HAR’s vision is a Resilient, Dignified and Safe Society.
HAR has received a two-year grant award from Enabel, the Belgian Development Agency, under the framework of Green and Decent Jobs for Youth (WeWork) in the Busoga region. This initiative aims to improve the livelihoods of 300 vulnerable youths in Kamuli District by equipping them with sustainable green skills for regular income and financial independence.
Job Description:
Beneficiary Engagement:
o Facilitate identification, screening, and enrollment of vulnerable youths into the training program using tools like the Household Vulnerability Assessment Tool (HVAT).
o Conduct outreach and liaise with local leaders and community members to mobilize support for the project.
Coordination and Implementation:
o Coordinate field activities, including training sessions, to ensure effective and timely delivery.
o Collaborate with Safe Space Assistants to maintain an inclusive and supportive training environment.
Psychosocial Support:
o Provide psychosocial counseling to trainees, addressing issues such as gender-based violence (GBV), mental health, HIV and social inclusion. o Facilitate referrals for additional support services, including health, legal, and educational needs. o Facilitate identification, case management, and referral and follow up of Gender Based violence survivors.
o Empower families to provide a nurturing environment and meet children and youth's most critical care needs such as food security, and physical and mental health.
Monitoring and Reporting:
o Conduct regular follow-ups with trainees to monitor progress and well-being. o Maintain accurate records of trainee participation and outcomes.
o Support the implementation of gender mainstreaming and other crosscutting themes in the project.
o Work with the respective safe space assistants to develop a mechanism for monitoring and tracking vulnerable youth; enrolment, services provision, skills development and referral completion.
o Prepare and submit timely, quality and informative project reports.
o Participate in the documentation of key lessons learned, case stories and most significant change stories.
o Manage the performance of project staff under your supervision, identify their capacity needs and coordinate their regular capacity building to improve performance.
Community Engagement:
o Educate the local community about project objectives and foster acceptance of trained youth as local experts in green skills.
o Organize community events to showcase trainee achievements and increase awareness of project goals.
o Conduct participatory youth services and resources mapping exercise to identify all existing community, CSO, public and private sector support services providers.
o Participate in developing and update of a district specific OVC/youth services directory.
o Facilitate formation of functional linkages and referral networks of all service providers identified in the project catchment areas.
o Engage corporate partners, CSOs, Local Government and faith based organizations to create economic opportunities for the youth in the project catchment area.
o Attend regular scheduled capacity building, review and coordination meetings.
Key Duties:
1. Assessment and Case Management
Conducting assessments of clients' needs, strengths, and challenges.
Developing personalized care or intervention plans.
Monitoring and evaluating progress toward achieving goals.
2. Advocacy
Advocating for clients to receive the resources and services they need (e.g., housing, healthcare, legal aid).
Promoting social justice and addressing systemic barriers affecting marginalized groups.
3. Counseling and Support
Providing emotional support, guidance, and counseling to clients in distress.
Facilitating individual, group, or family therapy sessions.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
? Bachelor’s degree in social work, development studies, psychology, or a related field.
? Minimum of 2 years of experience in community-based programs, preferably with youth and vulnerable populations.
? Knowledge of gender equity, GBV prevention, and psychosocial support approaches.
? Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
? Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
? Knowledge of the local language is an added advantage.
? Knowledge of sales and marketing is an added advantage.
? Ability to ride a motorcycle is a must.
